The PGA Tour roadshow continues this weekend with the Wells Fargo Championship from Quail Hollow, North Carolina, and with just the Byron Nelson Classic to come before the second major of the year, finding form over the next few weeks will be crucial for those that will be looking for a performance at the PGA Championship. FansBet golf expert David Kristiansen returns with his betting preview and tips for the Wells Fargo and if you are after some value then head over to our FanBoosts section and check out our enhanced odds available.
What Happened At The Zurich Classic
I’m starting to believe that this tournament kind of sucks, some of that is the field getting subsequently worse year after year, some is the novelty fading and some can be attributed to The Masters hangover the golf world is feeling especially after the Tiger miracle this year.
That doesn’t take anything away from Rahm and Palmer though who looked like a sure thing after their impressive 65 in the first alternate shot round on Friday.
Betting wise we bounced back a little with Kisner and Brown securing us an each way with a T5.

About Quail Hollow And The Field
Course: Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina
Length: 7554 yards (Par 71)
Greens: Bermuda over seeded with Poa
Opened: 1961
Architect: George Cobb
Quail Hollow is once again host of the Wells Fargo, the site of the 2017 PGA Championship is one of the longest and toughest tests on tour. It ranked as the 5th most difficult last year and the winning score is usually between -8 and -15.
The field this week is kind of strange with a strong top end spearheaded by Rory, Rose, Day and Fowler, but after a small mid-range including Stenson, Phil and Hideki the bottom kind of falls out and we are left with 80% of the field being over a 100 to 1.
Here are some bullet points of what to expect and what to look for:
- Driving distance and/or strokes gained of the tee
- Extremely fast Bermuda greens
- 7 par 4s over 450 yards
- Approaches from over 175 yards both on the long par 4s and the par 3s
- Scrambling
- Par 5 scoring

Wells Fargo Betting Tips
Sergio Garcia
The Spaniard is known for two things his temperament and his stellar long iron play, the latter should line him up perfectly for success at Quail Hollow add to that he has gained strokes of the tee in 8 of his last 10 tracked tournaments and has an immaculate short game. We don’t have stats from last week but a solo 2nd with his partner Tommy Fleetwood suggests that his form is where it needs to be. Getting over 20 to 1 on a guy with a combined 24 wins on the PGA and European tour and who’s average winning score in those tournaments are -14 seems like good value to me.

Keith Mitchell
In his second season on tour Mitchell has built on an impressive rookie campaign that saw him finish in the top 10 four times wit a 3rd and a runner up as the highlights. He got his break through win at The Honda Classic earlier this year, where he held of charges from both Fowler and Koepka so he has proven not only that he can close, but that he can do so even if some of the top players in the world are in the mix. From a stats perspective he ranks in the top 20 in the following categories; Approach, Par 5 scoring, SG OTT, Driving distance and par 4s between 450-500 yards. In his only start at this event last year he finished T34.

Sam Burns
The 22-year-old that is still most known for being partnered with Tiger at Valspar in the final round last year(where he impressed) had a slow start to his first full season on tour with only two top 20 finishes in his first fourteen starts. He seems to be turning in to form as of late with T12, T23 and T9 in his last three starts. He has the length that is required here ranking 15th in driving distance and Bermuda is by far his preferred putting surface gaining 0,66 strokes per round on the surface.
