Tottenham take on Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday, in what promises to be a pulsating encounter. Spurs will be well rested coming into this one and are looking to derail Man City’s relentless quadruple charge during this first leg quarterfinal clash. Form Labs return with their betting preview and tips for the game and don’t forget we have plenty of value waiting for you in our FanBoosts section with our selection of enhanced odds.

Spurs Looking For New Stadium Inspiration

Spurs must hope that their new surroundings can inspire them to greater form, as although there were happy scenes at their new home following a 2-0 success over Crystal Palace, it wasn’t until the second half that they finally got going and a nervous start could be fatal with City in search of an away goal or two.

However, Pep Guardiola’s men haven’t been at their absolute most prolific these past couple of weeks, with their 1-0 FA Cup triumph over Brighton preceded by 2-0 wins over lowly duo Cardiff and Fulham.

Aguero Set To Return?

The absence of Sergio Aguero in their last two outings is notable in that regard, but though the Argentinian was spotted training with his teammates on Sunday, it’s unclear if he’ll actually be fit to start, as is the case with full-backs Kyle Walker and Alexander Zinchenko.

Although Guardiola would be loath to lose Aguero for this clash, he does have plenty of other players that could step up and make the telling difference should his star striker fail to make the cut.

City Relentless In Their Quadruple Pursuit

Indeed, City have been relentless in their pursuit of the quadruple as they’ve won 21 of 23 matches since just before the turn of the year.

However, while they beat a poor Schalke outfit over two legs during this period plus the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea domestically, the last time they encountered a top-six side they could only produce a goalless stalemate with the Blues in the League Cup final, which was nine games ago back in February.

That means they’ve only produced one victory by more than two goals in 10 fixtures, with just four of these by more than a single strike despite limited opposition, while six of their last nine have seen fewer than three goals for both teams combined.

Spurs Not So Convincing In Recent Times

Spurs haven’t delivered quite so much success as City since Boxing Day, losing eight out of 19 matches including a W2-D4-L1 record from their past seven.

In fact, they’ve scored just once in five of these last seven outings, going down 2-1 on three occasions, though these were close affairs as late goals cost them against Burnley, Southampton and Liverpool.

They may however be comforted by the fact that City have failed to register a second-half strike in their last three outings and only one after 27 minutes, and so we remain unconvinced that this tie will necessarily produce a glut of goals.

Spurs v Man City Betting Tips

That will certainly suit Spurs, who are actually W4-D1-L1 in designated home fixtures against either ‘Big Six’ sides or Champions League opponents since November.

That includes their 3-0 second-half demolition of Dortmund in the last round and in fact, across their nine matches hosting such teams this season, only Barcelona were able to triumph by more than the single strike as Lionel Messi inspired them to a 4-2 win.

Given Spurs have their key players intact, while City have played a lot of games recently and may be suffering slightly from tired legs, we’d prefer to be with the hosts on the handicap at the prices.

Indeed, over the past six seasons, teams at home in the first leg of a Champions League quarter-final have gone W13-D6-L5, while of those defeats only Real Madrid and Barcelona – who have dominated the European scene in recent times – could win by more than the solitary strike.

Much like French outfit PSG, City still seem to have a slight mental block when it comes to the knockout rounds in Europe and as such, the hosts appear well worth siding with.

Spurs +0.75 Asian Handicap At 1.77
