Spurs Revenge Over Inform Inter
Spurs will be out for revenge when Inter come to town after they threw away three points in the reverse fixture having appeared totally in control, as Inter scored twice in the last five minutes. Mauricio will be in a confident mood having just inflicted a first defeat on the only unbeaten side in Europe’s top five leagues in all competitions – Chelsea. However, they’ll need to beware of an Inter side that are in good form themselves.
The Nerazzurri have gone W10-D1-L2 over their last 13 outings, including a draw and a defeat to Barca, though they did also lose 4-1 in their last road trip at Atalanta prior to the international break. That was their third defeat in eight away matches this campaign as they’ve been far less emphatic away from the San Siro, also having to come from behind to win at PSV.
Spurs may also have lost three times at home this season, but these came against a Messi-inspired Barca, as well as 2-1 and 1-0 defeats hosting Liverpool and Man City respectively in league action. Inter have made great strides under Luciano Spalletti, but they’re nowhere near the level of those teams yet.
Spurs Will Be Confident
This may be Inter’s first season back in the Champions League since 2011/12, but they’ve only gone W2-D3-L5 on their travels in Europe since 2014/15, including defeats in five of the last six. In fact, they’ve shipped 17 goals in their last seven on the road in Europe, including three against the likes of Hapoel Be’er Sheva and Sparta Prague each, so Spurs will fancy their prospects of keeping alive their hopes until their trip to the Nou Camp on matchday six.
Indeed, the hosts have won four of six games at Wembley in this competition since the start of last season, beating the likes of Real Madrid and Dortmund, while the two defeats have been a narrow 2-1 loss to Juve and that aforementioned encounter with Barca.
Like the Catalan giants, Spurs will seek to press high up the pitch and force Inter into mistakes, a tactic that is all too familiar to them under Pochettino. They were clearly instructed to employ the same methods against Chelsea at the weekend, putting Jorginho under far more pressure than he’s used to, and Inter Milan’s Matias Vecino could feel a similar tightening of the air around him.
Italian teams are W5-D6-L18 travelling to face English sides in the Champions League since 2005/06, so Spurs should have enough about them to edge this encounter. However, pressing high up the pitch will suit the likes of Ivan Perisic and Mauro Icardi on the break, and a reverse 2-1 scoreline appeals at the odds.
Spurs v Inter Milan Betting Tips
Spurs have now won five on the trot and seem to have found their goalscoring boots with 12 goals across these games. However, while Harry Kane netted a late brace hosting PSV to keep their Champions League hopes alive, the England captain only scored four of these goals in total as others have picked up their form around him.
Heung-min Son contributed three himself and looks sharper than he did earlier in the campaign, having missed a chunk of action while he was on international duty during the Asian games. Indeed, he fired home in three of their final four Champions League games at the end last term while he looks to have found a similar vein of form now with his latest goal at the weekend a superb individual run from out wide and looks the pick of the bunch at the prices.
