The Rab Havlin Blog

Royal Ascot plans, Derby reflection, two trips to Chelmsford, plus a fond farewell to Jeremy Noseda all feature in top jockey Rab Havlin’s latest FansBet update.

Whimbrel got me on the scoresheet at Chelmsford on Thursday, getting the job done nicely in a mile and a quarter all-weather fillies’ novice.

By Dark Angel out of a Sea The Stars mare, she showed what you could call ‘push button’ acceleration to get the race put to bed, quickening away nicely.

Those qualities might suit her well dropping in trip over a stiff mile in something like the Sandringham Handicap the week after next, so if the boss gives the thumbs up for Royal Ascot that’s very possibly where you might see her in the near future, .

Another possible for the Gosden team at the Royal Meeting is Humanitarian, on whom I finished a pleasing seventh in the Derby last Saturday.

We were more than happy with his effort there, and having identified there would be plenty of pace on rode him accordingly to creep into the race as it developed.

That panned out well as he was doing all his best work at the finish.

With that in mind, it could be the King Edward VII Stakes or the Queen’s Vase if he’s showing all the right signs when the time comes. He’s certainly maturing nicely.

Switching from four legs to two momentarily, I’d like to use my FansBet blog to wish Jeremy Noseda a happy retirement from the training ranks.

News broke on Wednesday he’d be hanging up his hat after 23 years in the firing line, a spell which yielded 14 top level victories.

A nice fellow, we always got on well. I rode a couple of winners for him and it’ll be a shame to see him go.

Lastly, looking ahead Saturday will be my second trip of the week to Chelmsford, where I’ve four good rides to look forward to.

Perhaps the strongest of those and my best chance of a winner is Swift Wing for the boss in the closing race at 5.25pm.

Despite being understandably green and inexperienced first time out he ran very well to be third at Ascot 29 days ago, a race I actually won on another of ours, Kesia.

From a good family, Swift Wing is related to Eagle Top and I hope he can take a step forward here.
