After returning to the top of the Premier League standings and thrashing Schalke 7-0 in their midweek Champions League last 16 clash, Manchester City come into their FA Cup quarterfinal clash with Swansea in top form and on course for a quadruple! Form Labs breaks down the action with their betting previews and tips for the game and if you are after some FA Cup value then head over to our FanBoosts section and take advantage of our selection of enhanced odds.
Swansea’s progress to the quarter-finals has seen them avoid a truly tough encounter as they’ve visited Aston Villa and hosted both Gillingham and Brentford, though they showed plenty of attacking ambition as they struck 11 times across these games.
Their current form has seen them lose four of their last seven, but though each of these defeats came on the road, they’ll meet their match here against a rampant City side.
Man City In Perfect Shape
Pep Guardiola’s outfit are riding the crest of a wave as they’ve overtaken Liverpool at the top of the Premier League standings and are fresh from a confidence-boosting 7-0 annihilation of Schalke in the Champions League.
Although they’re always prone to scoring more goals at the Etihad, they should find this encounter a walk in the park regardless and maintain their push for a historic quadruple.
City have already downed Welsh opposition on the road in this tournament as League Two outfit Newport County were dispatched 4-1, but we saw potential for a consolation effort in that game and the same rings true here.
Surface Could Be An Issue
Both Newport and Swansea’s stadiums have been used for rugby union matches and the ground staff at the Liberty Stadium will hardly be bending over backwards to roll out an elite surface for Man City to strut their stuff on.
Indeed, Newport grabbed a consolation effort via a long punt that City’s backline failed to deal with effectively, and Swansea will fancy their chances of registering on the board having netted 14 times in their last five matches at the Liberty Stadium, while City possess just four clean sheets from their last 13 away days.
The Swans may also be boosted by the return from illness of top scorer Oli McBurnie, who has 18 goals this term including 10 from as many games since the start of 2019.
Swansea v Man City Betting Tips
Many had thought that Sergio Aguero would be rested against Schalke after such a demanding fixture list where he’s been a virtual ever-present.
It would certainly be no surprise if Guardiola hands Gabriel Jesus a start here, with the Brazilian only featuring intermittently owing to the Argentine’s sensational form, especially after he rounded off the scoring against Schalke from the bench midweek, while he’s netted three times in two appearances against the Swans during his time in Manchester.
However, given City have two weeks off following this fixture with the international break around the corner, while Sergio Aguero has once again been omitted from the national squad as he’s yet to feature for Argentina since the World Cup, we’d avoid either in the goalscorers markets as it’s anyone’s guess as to who will get the nod to lead the line.
