Old Firm Derby Rangers v Celtic Preview – Stiliyan Petrov
Rangers v Celtic Betting Tips
Rangers can’t afford to let the gap between themselves and Celtic grow any further with the Hoops possessing a game in hand, but it looks a tall order given Steven Gerrard’s men have been victorious just twice in their last six as they’ve slipped down into second place. They may only have lost one of these games, against fourth-placed Aberdeen, but their title challenge has rested upon consistency when facing those below the Dons in the table.
Indeed, they’re winless in four encounters with fellow top-four outfits so far, including a defeat versus Celtic themselves. That leaves them with five defeats from six winless matches against Brendan Rodgers’ men since the start of last season across all competitions, with a rather unflattering aggregate scoreline of 15-2. The visitors have found their goalscoring boots with 10 strikes across their last three, and we expect them to cement their grip at the head of the table.
Kilmarnock v St. Mirren Betting Tips
Although St. Mirren are enjoying their best spell of form all season (W2-D2-L4) it’s noticeable that of the four games they didn’t lose, three of them came against teams eighth or below in the table. In fact, they’ve lost 10 of 12 matches this season when excluding such teams, while they failed to find the net in exactly half of these games. They’ve not fared so well against the better sides, losing five of six winless fixtures against the current top four as they conceded an average of two per game across these.
Killie are back up to third and have endured few problems against bottom-half teams, winning seven of their last nine unbeaten games when facing such outfits. They’ve won their last three on home turf by a combined score of 8-1, and so should have plenty of firepower to down their visitors. Given Kilmarnock have only conceded more than once in just one of nine home matches to date, while St. Mirren have only managed to net more than a single strike in one of nine away fixtures, the hosts should have this one in the bag.
Hibernian v Hearts Betting Tips
Hearts may have recorded victory over Hamilton last time out – their second in four games – but it’s worth pointing out their recent successes have come against teams down in the bottom four, who are forming a mini league of their own at the foot of the table. Craig Levein’s side are now W2-D1-L6 over their last nine matches since the start of November, failing to score in all but one of those defeats, and their early season title challenge is but a distant memory as they trail leaders Celtic by nine points now.
Hibernian could only manage to draw their last three outings, but two of these came against Rangers and it still leaves them unbeaten in six. They’ve actually won each of their last five hosting Hearts in all competitions since the start of 2015, conceding just once across these. Given the visitors have lost four of their last five on the road, failing to score in all but one of these including a pair of 5-0 batterings at Celtic and Livingston, Hibs should feel confident at making it six from six against them on home turf.
