Derby games are often tetchy, stop-start encounters low on quality and goalmouth action. Thankfully, that never applies to the Merseyside derby.
When neighbours Liverpool and Everton get together, fireworks are guaranteed.
The Reds may not see the Toffees as their primary rival nowadays, with Manchester United typically competing with Jurgen Klopp’s men for silverware, but derby day still counts for plenty.
The game is sometimes called ‘The Friendly Derby’. But that could not be further from the truth. The fixture has seen more red cards than any other Premier League clash with 20 players receiving their marching orders since 1992.
However, meetings between the red and blue halves of Merseyside have also seen countless iconic games and players.
Scoring against the other’s bitter rival is enough to ensure hero status and since 2007 there have been 33 different scorers in Merseyside derbies.
Ahead of Saturday’s clash, we’ve trawled the archives to remember them all and now it’s your turn. You’ve got eight minutes to name every player to have found the back of the net – in every competition – since the start of the 2007/08 season.
Remember to turn your ad blocker off in order for the game to work properly.
