The transfer window is just over two weeks old and it’s already hard to keep up with all the comings and goings.
As clubs try to save their seasons, shift deadweight from the wage bill, and agents trying to get their clients improved contracts rumours are flying everywhere.
Here is the latest news from across the Premier League.
The Blues look set to be among the busiest clubs this month. Having already announced the £57.6million signing of Christian Pulisic for Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea are actively hunting additional reinforcements.
Bolstering the midfield is a top priority following Cesc Fabregas’ departure to Monaco but there has been positive developments regarding one target. Zenit Saint Petersburg’s Leandro Paredes is edging closer to joining after Chelsea increased their bid to £31million, as per The Standard.
Maurizio Sarri’s side have also been linked with Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella but the 21-year-old isn’t keen on leaving Italy midseason. The club are still hoping to bring in a new striker, too, with Gonzalo Higuain the name on everybody’s lips.
Alvaro Morata looks set to leave Stamford Bridge, however, with Atletico Madrid willing to take the out-of-sorts striker on loan.
Spurs may dip into the window unexpectedly following Harry Kane’s injury. The England striker hobbled off after the defeat to Manchester United and could be ruled out for a month.
With that, the possible sale of Fernando Llorente to Barcelona and Son Heung-min’s absence through international commitments, Mauricio Pochettino looks short up top.
It’s no surprise, then, to see the north Londoners linked with a loan move for Barca forward Malcom. The Brazilian was a Spurs target before he left Bordeaux but has struggled to establish himself at the Camp Nou.
The 21-year-old can play across the frontline and would be a good option for Pochettino until the end of the season.
Rest of the top six
Following his omission from the matchday squad for the defeat to West Ham, Mesut Ozil is being linked with a move away from Arsenal. Unai Emery is apparently keen to offload the German and reports in Italy claim the Spaniard has offered the 30-year-old playmaker to Juventus and Inter Milan.
Meanwhile, the Gunners are still working on securing a loan move for Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez. The 25-year-old previously flourished under Emery’s management Sevilla.
As for Premier League leaders Liverpool, they are among a number of clubs tracking Dutch winger Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld. The Club Brugge starlet has impressed in Belgium this season and broke into the Netherlands set-up in October. Everton and Tottenham are also monitoring the player. Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are also weighing up a potential move for in-form Red Bull Salzburg striker Munas Dabbur.
Rest of the league
Callum Wilson remains a wanted man. The Bournemouth forward, who has nine goals and five assists in 20 league games this season, was mentioned as a Chelsea target but now appears to be attracting interest from West Ham. The Hammers are braced to lose top scorer Marko Arnautovic and may use the fee gained from the Austrian’s departure to fund a move for Wilson.
Bournemouth’s £75million asking price will certainly make any deal difficult, though.
West Ham are also the latest club linked with Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey. The 26-year-old has also been linked with Fulham in this window but Magpies boss Rafael Benitez is reluctant to sanction any departures with the club having slipped into the relegation zone.
In their bid to escape relegation, Fulham are hoping to sign full-back Danny Simpson from Leicester City and are still frontrunners for Chelsea’s Gary Cahill.
Cardiff City are leading the race to sign Nantes striker Emiliano Sala as Neil Warnock attempts to recruit extra firepower to avoid the drop. Sala has been in excellent form this season with 12 goals in 18 games. The Bluebirds, who have found the net just 19 times in 22 games, could certainly use his clinical finishing.
