Michael Smith v James Wade
Michael Smith is having a torrid time at the moment. He lost 8-1 last week then lost at the first hurdle in the Austrian Darts Open, meaning he’s won just three of 14 matches this season. James Wade, on the other hand, recorded an 8-4 siccess over Gerwyn Price last week and has a whopping 16-3 head-to-head lead over Smith, including winning the last nine.
Mensur Suljovic v Rob Cross
Rob Cross was the man to thrash Smith 8-1 last week, averaging 102.54 in the process. Mensur Suljovic also won but with an average of only 93.91 and this is not too far from what is to be expected with Cross averaging 99.58 and Suljovic 95.93 so far this year. Although the Austrian won 7-5 the last time they met in the Premier League, Cross was 5-1 up only to collapse with Suljovic winning with just a 88.71 average. Voltage should be favoured here over the best of 14 legs.
Daryl Gurney v Gerwyn Price
5th plays 6th here with 16 and 15 points respectively and both within touching distance of the two players in 3rd and 4th on 17 points. Gurney may have won two more matches but he’s also lost an extra game with Price suffering just four losses, displaying the greater consistency. This is shown in their averages this year with the Welshman throwing 98.31 compared to the Northern Irishman’s 95.49. The Ice Man leads their head-to-head 8-2 (with one draw) and is the bet here in what is perceived as a tight match.
Michael van Gerwen v Peter Wright
Peter Wright is really, really struggling this year. He averaged 89 in defeat last week meaning it’s now just two wins in 14 Premier League matches. Michael van Gerwen also lost but picked himself back up to win a 4th European Tour event already this season with a tournament average of 99 in Austria. These two actually met on Sunday in the quarter-finals where MVG won 6-5 but it was a poor performance from the Green Machine with an average of just 89. The last time they met in the Premier League MVG won 7-1 averaging 100 to Wright’s 87.
