With Liverpool keeping pace with Manchester City at the top of the table and Everton beginning to fulfill their potential under Marco Silva, the first Merseyside derby of the season, taking place at Anfield on Sunday, promises fireworks.
As red and blue battle for Premier League supremacy, Merseyside dominance and those all-important bragging rights, there is no shortage of intrigue whenever these two teams meet.
However, to add further spice to your enjoyment of this fixture, FansBet’s Fantasy Game of the Week could see you win cash by picking out the players you think will perform best when Liverpool and Everton clash.
It’s just £5.50 to enter for a chance to win a share of £500. All you need to do is pick a six-a-side team from the two teams’ players. You have a budget of £50 million to work with to pick your starting six plus one substitute.
Our friends at Football Whispers have picked theirs. Think you can do better?
Alisson – Liverpool (£5.5m)
Liverpool set a new world record with the fee they forked out to sign goalkeeper Alisson from Roma in the summer – albeit one that was soon eclipsed by Chelsea’s capture of Kepa Arrizabalaga – but the Brazilian has already proven himself to be worth every penny.
The Reds have conceded just five Premier League goals so far this season and the calm authority Alisson exudes, not to mention his stellar shot-stopping skills, has been a huge contributing factor.
Michael Keane – Everton (£5m)
After a rocky start to life at Goodison Park following his £24million move from Burnley last season, former Manchester United defender Keane is now finally rediscovering his best form.
Under the guidance of Toffees boss Marco Silva, Keane is justifying his price tag and re-establishing himself as one of the very best young centre-backs in the Premier League. However, with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane set to line up in attack for Liverpool, he will have his hands full at Anfield on Sunday.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – Liverpool (£5m)
Alexander-Arnold followed up his first England goal at the last international break by scoring a stunning free-kick as Liverpool saw off Watford when the Premier League action resumed last weekend.
The supremely gifted 20-year-old right-back has the world at his feet and has shown the kind of temperament to suggest big games such as this will not daunt him.
Richarlison – Everton (£6.5m)
Eyebrows were raised when Everton splashed £40million on signing Richarlison from Watford during the summer transfer window. The Brazilain youngster showed plenty of promise in his one season at Vicarage Road, but he lacked consistency and tailed off as the season wore on.
Any doubts have since been dispelled, however. Richarlison already has six league goals to his name for the Toffees and is beginning to look like a bargain.
Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (£13m)
There were fears at the start of the season that Salah would not be able to recapture the scoring form which saw him net an incredible 44 times in his debut season with the Reds last term.
Such fears have been allayed by the Egyptian magician’s recent form, though, with three strikes in his last three games. Now widely considered one of the best players in the world, Salah is the man Everton need to most concern themselves with.
Roberto Firmino – Liverpool (£9.5m)
Whether as a false 9 or a No.10, Firmino exudes intelligence and invention. The former Hoffenheim star may have only scored three times in 12 Premier League games so far this season but he is vital to the Liverpool attack with his movement and link play.
Firmino is the man who knits Liverpool’s vaunted frontline together and Everton will not underestimate his capabilities at Anfield.
Georginio Wijnaldum – Liverpool (£5.5m)
The surprise package of Liverpool’s season, despite the acquisitions of Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri, Wijnaldum has been the Reds’ best midfielder thus far in 2018/19.
Positionally disciplined, tenacious and capable of getting forward at the right times, the Dutchman is proving a real asset for Jurgen Klopp.
