The Premier League is back this weekend after a 12-week break as we embark on another nine months of football.
I’ve had a look at whats about on Matchday One to see if there is anything tasty that is worth a nose at. For the first weekend, I’ve gone for some selections mainly from the televised games.
LIVERPOOL VS NORWICH CITY- FRIDAY 9 AUGUST
It will take a monumental effort for Liverpool to reach the levels they did last season. Having said that I don’t think they could have had a more gentle start to the new season than with a home game against the Canaries.
Don’t get me wrong I think Norwich will make it hard for Liverpool but I think their quality and superior ability will come through.
The only markets here with any kind of value in my opinion is correct score and goal scorer markets as I’m pretty confident the Reds will open with a win it’s just a case of what score and who will score them ?!
WEST HAM UNITED VS MANCHESTER CITY – SATURDAY 10 AUGUST
Saturday starts with an already strong looking Manchester City travelling to West Ham in the 12:30 kick off.
This is an away day that hasn’t caused City too much trouble in recent past and I can’t see that changing this season.
After a Community Shield win against Liverpool at the weekend they are already without doubt the strong favourites for a 3rd successive title in my opinion.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR VS ASTON VILLA – SATURDAY 10 AUGUST
Saturday finishes with my old team Tottenham taking on newly promoted and heavy spending Aston Villa in what has the making of a great opening fixture for both teams.
I can see this being a very closely contested fixture with Spurs edging it by the odd goal.
Sunday brings us three mouthwatering fixtures for an opening weekend.
A Midlands derby in Wolves vs Leicester. Then we’re onto a surprisingly active-in-the-market Arsenal travelling to Steve Bruce’s Newcastle and to top it off the small matter of Man Utd vs Chelsea.
All the games are very difficult to predict with new signings and managers all involved it is all set be a good old super Sunday!
If pushed for a bet I’d go for a little Acca across the three games, going for all three to be home wins.
