Must Win For Both Teams

It’s a must win game for both sides as Gladbach currently sit level on points with Leverkusen, though they currently hold the final Champions League spot over them by virtue of a narrowly better goal difference, while Dortmund trail Bayern at the head of the table by two points.

The Foals came sprinting out the blocks at the start of the season, thanks to some scintillating play from key players Thorgan Hazard, Lars Stindl and Alassane Plea in the final third to put them behind just Dortmund and Bayern heading into the winter break.

They actually continued that fine form on returning in 2019, but it was short lived as they suffered their first home defeat of the season to Hertha Berlin (3-0) in February, and from that point onwards they’ve gone W3-D4-L6 over 13 matches.

In fact, their home form over this period has seen them lose four of seven winless outings, though they have faced the likes of Wolfsburg, Bayern, Bremen, Leipzig and Hoffenheim in that time.

Gladbach v Dortmund Betting Tips

The Black & Yellows lost out to their local rivals Schalke at the end of last month, while they threw away a two-goal advantage at the Weserstadion a fortnight ago, meaning their victory last week over Dusseldorf has still left them with an uphill battle.

However, they have been very clinical against the breakaway top-half sides, winning 10 of their 15 outings as their only defeat came at the Allianz Arena.

In addition, the visitors will have captain Marco Reus returning to the fray for this one following suspension and he enjoys a fantastic record against his former employers.

He’s faced them on 10 occasions and Dortmund have won eight, while he’s bagged seven goals and five assists, netting in each of his past three visits to Borussia-Park.

In fact, Dortmund’s record with Reus is much better against anyone in the league, as they’ve won 15% more of the 37 games that he’s started since the start of last season compared to the 30 he didn’t. Given Dortmund have won all seven head-to-heads with Gladbach since 2015/16, with Reus grabbing the winner in both the last two encounters, we fancy them to at least put the pressure on Bayern.
