Horse Racing: Newcastle & Kempton: Tuesday, June 2nd

Our expert gives us six to watch from the meetings at Newcastle and Kempton on Tuesday.

After its long-awaited return at Newcastle on Monday, the racing action continues on Tuesday with two all-weather meetings at Newcastle and Kempton.

The latter looks to have some interesting maidens on the card and we see Frankie Dettori in action for 1 ride at the Surrey course on Galsworthy (4.00).

Earlier on the card we have the first 2-year-old race of the season in which Science (2.45) will be looking to start the season off well for trainer Archie Watson, who did so well with his Juveniles last season.

The 2-year-olds will also be in action at Newcastle with 4 races, where the aptly named Lockdown (3.05) will be looking to make a winning debut.

As usual, our racing expert has been studying the formbook to pick out some of the best bets across the day’s racing.

Tough Remedy has solid course form to his name with form figures of 1-3-1-2-5 here at Newcastle. The latest of those victories came over today`s mile trip and he looked to be returning to form when last seen back in February.

That was only his second start for his new yard and he looks ready to strike of a mark 3lb below his last winning rating. Amplification ran well to finish second here over 7f when last seen and rates the danger if returning in the same form.

Selection: Tough Remedy

A decent quality handicap in which the Roger Varian trained Fifth Position is sure to be popular. With just the 6 starts to date and with this just his second start in a handicap there is a good chance he could be well ahead of his mark.

At bigger odds though Firmament makes more appeal today. He does not hold too many secrets from the handicapper but he has posted some solid efforts fresh in the past previously including a course and distance success here as few years ago.

Selection: Firmament

The winner of two races on the flat in Ireland, St Gallen looks an interesting runner on his first on the level for trainer Olly Murphy. Twice a winner over hurdles from three starts for the yard, he looks to have benefitted for a change of scenery.

The jockey booking of Oisin Murphy takes the eye and a good effort looks expected by connections.

Selection: St Gallen

Interestingly their looked a slight bias at Newcastle on Monday towards prominent racers and Glen Shiel looks a likely type who could just be able to dictate the race here. He was a winner here over a furlong further than today’s 6f trip back in January before going on to post another solid placed effort over the same course and distance next time out.

Archie Watson has a good record with his runners after a break so he could be more forward than a few here and the fact he has form over further means he could take some passing for Jockey Hollie Doyle who rides the Newcastle course so well.

Selection: Glen Shiel (NB)

A decent looking maiden in which some nicely bred types from big yards are set to do battle. War Cross will need to be very useful to take this on debut but this Derby entry makes plenty of appeal on pedigree and his trainer Ed Vaughan does well with his runners at Kempton.

Selection: War Cross

Kempton: 5:40

Rodney Le Roc looks to have a handicap in him based on his promising run when finishing third behind the re-opposing Rocketeer. The winner that day looked to have the run of the race and with a 3lb turnaround in the weights, the selection is expected to gain revenge.

Selection: Rodney Le Roc (NAP)
