Everton are without a win in their last four league games and are up against a Tottenham team that are starting to hit top gear with three consecutive wins. Spurs On The Charge
Mauricio Pochettino has led Spurs to 10 wins from their last 12 league matches, with the two exceptions defeats against City and Arsenal, while eight of these victories saw them leading at the break as well.
We’re not convinced they can get the job done so early this time however, as the Toffees have been level at half-time in nine of their last 12 matches, including three of five against ‘Big Six’ opponents this term as only Utd and City sneaked narrow 1-0 first half wins.
Everton Need To Improve Against Big Six
While they’ve been more competitive against such teams under Marco Silva, Everton have still lost 12 of 17 winless encounters with ‘Big Six’ sides since the start of last season – including four of five this term as quality has shone through in the end.
Ten of those defeats were by at least two clear goals as they conceded three or more in seven, including 3-0 and 4-0 defeats home and away respectively against Spurs themselves.
Everton may have only suffered defeat once across nine matches at Goodison Park this term (W5-D3-L1), but they’ve had a fairly easy ride as the highest-ranked team they’ve faced is 9th-placed West Ham – which is only game they lost.
Their last two in front of their own fans were stalemates against Newcastle and Watford, which hardly inspires confidence that they’re ready for the visit of Spurs.
