The wait is finally over as England take on South Africa in the opening clash of the Cricket World Cup at The Oval on Thursday. Could be a good toss to win with overcast conditions expected and results going in favour of the side batting second at the venue. England are just 1.44 to get their World Cup off to a winning start as there huge is a weight of expectation on Eoin Morgan’s side.
The hosts enter the tournament as firm favourites and though their opponents are the fourth most likely team to lift the trophy on starting odds they aren’t given much hope here.
England showed in their 4-0 ODI win over Pakistan that they have what it takes to win their maiden World Cup. In each completed game they scored over 340 runs and in the third ODI chased down 359 with five Overs to spare.
England have won 10 of their last 11 matches in either ODIs or T20s.
South Africa come into the World Cup in good form too having thrashed Sri Lanka 5-0 in March before also beating them in their only warm-up game.
England v South Africa Betting Tips
With two high-scoring teams in fine form the Over 4.5 Runs in the first over at 2.00 looks a great price regardless of who bats.
Coming into the match there are doubts over the fitness of South African paceman Dale Steyn leaving the visitors a bit light first up against the destructive pair of Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow.
England have a fully fit attack that will be raring to go in the curtain-raiser. With the advantage at the top of the order anyway plus the likely starting XIs we’re expecting England to have the highest First 15 Overs Score.
