Dortmund effectively handed the Bundesliga title to rivals Bayern following their 2-2 draw with Werder last weekend. The Black and Yellows are now four points behind with just the two rounds to go and need to rely on Bayern slipping up, while winning their remaining games, starting with Dusseldorf this weekend. Form Labs bring you their betting preview and tips for the game while we have plenty of value waiting for you in our FanBoosts section for another weekend of top-flight football.
More Points Dropped
It was a bitterly disappointing weekend for Dortmund as they were held to a stalemate by Bremen having taken a two-goal lead heading into the final 20 minutes.
A sloppy mistake from Roman Burki gave Florian Kohfeldt’s men their first goal, while Manuel Akanji was to blame for the second.
That result leaves them four points adrift of league leaders Bayern with just two games to go and, although the Bavarians face both Leipzig (A) and Frankfurt (H) in their final two games, you feel they should at least pick up a couple points across them, which would all but secure their seventh straight title.
Dortmund Need The Win
Lucien Favre will know all his charges can do is cash in on three points and hope for some good fortune.
Maximum points in this one looks likely too given that they’ve won 13 of their 16 matches at Westfalenstadion this term, as only local rivals Schalke could get the better of them thanks to Marco Reus being sent off at 2-1 down with half an hour left on the clock, while Marius Wolf joined him on the sidelines just five minutes later.
It should be noted though that they’ve only kept their opponents out on three occasions all season, with one of those a 7-0 thrashing of 17th-placed Nurnberg. With Achraf Hakimi still out, we’d be very apprehensive of backing them to win to nil.
Dortmund v Dusseldorf Betting Tips
Dusseldorf were the side to inflict the Black & Yellows’ first defeat of the season back in December, though that was at the Merkur Spiel-Arena where they’ve been much more competitive this term.
In fact, they’ve gone a mere W4-D5-L7 from their 16 road games this season, with each of their four victories coming against bottom-half sides, while against the breakaway top-half above, they’ve lost five of their eight winless trips, although they did find the net in six of them.
In fact, Friedhelm Funkel’s charges have netted in 11 of their 12 trips in all competitions since mid-November and we’d be very surprise if they didn’t at least register.
