Form Labs

The Championship continues this weekend and our FansBet traders have been busy getting some value together for another weekend of football betting. Their Championship acca for week 18 is for Sheffield United to get the away win against Rotherham, Leeds to continue their form with a home win over Bristol and for Derby to get back to winning ways away to Sheffield Wednesday. Form Labs breaks down the three games with their betting preview and don’t forget that we have additional enhanced odds and accas for all of Europe’s top leagues including more for the Championship here.

Rotherham v Sheffield United

Rotherham haven’t exactly been ruthless on their return to the Championship and have just one win from their last 10 outings. Their downfall has been in the final third of the field as only Bolton have netted fewer than their dismal 14 goals, which could cost them up against a free-scoring Sheffield Utd side. Only WBA, Leeds and Norwich have scored more than the Blades’ 27 goals and although they’ve endured a tricky spell of W1-D2-L2 across their last five, we expect them to bounce back after the international break.

Indeed, both those defeats came at top-seven outfits Forest and Derby, and prior to that they’d won four of their previous five road trips. Moreover, the visitors have won five of six unbeaten outings when facing sides below 14th in the table, while they’ve also beaten the other two promoted teams this campaign – each by two goal margins.

Leeds United v Bristol City

Leeds are odds-on favourites for this clash for good reason. They’ve won nine of the 12 meetings between the sides since 2010/11, losing just the once, while at Elland Road they’ve won an impressive five of six unbeaten matches. The hosts back that impressive record up with their form this term, going W6-D3-L0 from nine matches versus bottom-half sides. Bristol City may sit in the upper section of that bracket, but they’ve lost each of their last three outings and look like a side on the decline into the lower depths of the league. Those defeats came against Stoke, Reading and Preston (none of whom are challenging in the top half) and so we don’t give them much hope at all against a high-flying Leeds outfit.

The Whites are currently in third place and victory here could see them leapfrog both Middlesbrough and Norwich to lead the Championship once more. The full three points looks highly likely too given City’s only road trip to a top-six side this term resulted in a 4-2 hammering at West Brom (they were already 3-0 down by the break) and this could follow a similar route.

Sheffield Wednesday v Derby

Wednesday have earned just one point from their last five outings as they held their local rivals to a goalless draw in the Steel derby last time out. However, big matches like that are always easier to get your side fired up for and it seems Jos Luhukay has struggled to do that in other games. Indeed, they lost to all of Middlesbrough, QPR, Birmingham and Norwich in those other matches, as each of the last three were by two or more goals. What’s more, the Owls have lost two of their last five winless matches at Hillsborough with their most recent win here coming back in August to rock-bottom Ipswich.

Frank Lampard’s men have been clinical in going about their business, winning three of their last five matches and only losing once. That’s more impressive than at first glance, as each of those matches came against top-half sides, while three were of top-five quality. Although they lost to Aston Villa in their most recent outing, they’ll use that as a wake-up call and bounce back. Moreover, they drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough in their last road game, while they thumped West Brom 4-1 in their previous trip. Up against the joint-worst defence in the league, we expect a similar sort of beating.
