Atletico Madrid v Monaco Betting Tips

Atletico and Dortmund have almost already got Group A sewn up and a victory here would all but see the Madrid club through to the knockout phases. It doesn’t look in doubt as they host a shambolic Monaco outfit who haven’t seen their form turn around since the appointment of Thierry Henry. The French side won their first Ligue 1 match of the season but have since lost 11 of 16 winless matches in all competitions prior to facing Caen on Saturday, including four defeats from six since Henry came in. One of these was an embarrassing 4-0 loss at home to Club Brugge, their seventh defeat in their last nine in this competition.

This should be nothing more than a formality for Atletico, who proved what a force they are to be reckoned with at the Wanda Metropolitino by beating Dortmund 2-0 a fortnight after their humbling defeat at the Westfalendstadion. Indeed, since Diego Simeone has been here, they’ve won 21 of 28 home Champions League matches, including 14 of 17 in the group stages, so this should be one way traffic.

Napoli v Red Star Belgrade Betting Tips

Napoli find themselves in pole position and can at the very least put one foot into the next round with a win over Red Star. The Serbian outfit held them to a draw in the reverse fixture on matchday one, but the Italians were adjusting to Carlo Ancelotti’s methods and they’ve since improved, and they’ll feel confident they have the right man to fulfil their European ambitions. They’ve beaten Liverpool with an accompanying clean sheet, while earning two draws with PSG as they were unfortunate not to take maximum points in Paris as Angel Di Maria netted a late equalizer.

That good form hasn’t been restricted to just European action as they’ve gone W6-D1-L1 in Serie A matches since that stalemate in Belgrade, with the defeat away at Juventus and the draw hosting Roma. Meanwhile, Red Star have given themselves an unlikely chance of escaping the group with their victory over Liverpool last time out, but they also lost 4-0 and 6-1 when travelling to face the Reds and PSG respectively and that appears a freakish one-off result. We’re not expecting the hosts to match the firepower of their group rivals, but having gone W13-D2-L2 in group stage encounters in European action since 2013/14, should find this a relatively easy assignment as long as they stay focused.

Dortmund v Brugge Betting Tips

Dortmund may have suffered a 2-0 defeat away in Madrid in their last Champions League match, but the Wanda Metropolitano is an extremely tough place to visit and that remains their sole defeat in 16 games this season across all competitions ahead of their trip to Mainz this weekend (W11-D4-L1). They’ve been scintillating going forwards and are by far and away the top scorers in the Bundesliga this term, with their exploits in the final third yielding an incredible 4-0 victory over Atletico at the Westfalenstadion – Diego Simeone’s heaviest defeat since taking over Atletico in December 2011.

Club Brugge will be eyeing an unlikely third-placed finish to secure a spot in the knockout stages of the Europa League, with Monaco fairing so poorly this season, and in fact all four of their points have come against the French club in their past two Champions League matches. Prior to that, they’d lost all eight games at this level since 2016/17, including a pair of defeats against Leicester, Copenhagen and Porto each – despite that being as kind a group as you can hope for in Europe’s elite club competition. They’re not even faring well of late domestically as they’re just W1-D3-L2 over their last six in the Belgium First Division A, and if Dortmund find an early goal the scoreline could get ugly.
