Real Madrid v CSKA Moscow Betting Tips

Los Blancos may have secured top spot of Group G already, but that won’t stop the winners of the last three editions of this competition from taking their foot off the pedal. Indeed, they’ve won 10 of 11 unbeaten final group stage matches since 2007/08, including all six whereby they’d already secured top spot by an aggregate scoreline of 24-1.

They are unable to boast the same record in this competition having failed to advance past the group stage in any of their past five attempts going back to 2013/14, losing 21 of 35 matches. What’s more, they’ve lost all five of their final group stage matches over that period and given they’ve only recorded three victories across their last nine matches in all competitions, with all those wins against much weaker Russian teams, we don’t give them much hope.

Santiago Solari has got his charges firing with eight wins from his nine outings in all competitions since taking over in October. That includes all three at the Bernabeu by an impressive aggregate score of 10-1 as they seem to have finally gotten their season underway. Moreover, the last time CSKA Moscow visited the Bernabeu they were thumped 4-1 in 2011/12 and we be surprised to see a repeat of that.

Viktoria Plzen v Roma Betting Tips

Viktoria Plzen may be W3-D2-L1 over their last six matches across all competitions, but four of those encounters came against much weaker Czech sides, so we won’t look too much into that. In fact, they’ve only been victorious in one of their last four at the Doosan Arena as their only success came against bottom-six Czech side Sigma Olomouc, while Real Madrid thrashed them 5-0 last month and ended their Champions League hopes in the process.

That will give this Italian outfit some much needed confidence as they’re on a poor run of W2-D2-L2 across their last six outings in all competitions. However, one of those defeats came against Real Madrid as they salvaged a stalemate with Inter in that time, while they beat CSKA Moscow away from home (the Russians are currently level on points with Viktoria Plzen).

Moreover, Roma have won six of their 11 group stage matches in this competition since the start of last season as only Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid (twice) could get the better of them, while a record of five wins from five outings against minnows – FK Karabakh (twice), Viktoria Plzen and CSKA Moscow (twice) – is satisfactory. With that in mind, we fancy the visitors to get back to winning ways this Wednesday and do a double over the joint-worst defence in this competition.

Ajax v Bayern Munich Betting Tips

This is a straight shootout for top spot in Group E. Bayern currently hold a two-point lead with a draw being enough to secure first place, but that certainly won’t deter them from going all out for the full three points. The German giants look to have finally found their rhythm after a sticky start, recording a 5-1 Champions League triumph over fellow group members Benfica, before going on to beat both Werder Bremen and Nurnberg domestically.

On the other hand, Ajax may have won 12 of their 13 unbeaten home games in all competitions this term, but not a single one of those matches came against opposition up to Bayern’s standards. Although they grinded out a stalemate at the Allianz Arena earlier in the season, that was in the middle of the Bavarians’ worst run of two defeats from four winless matches.

They look a different kettle of fish now after Niko Kovac has stuck to a more consistent starting XI. Given they and Dortmund have won a combined four of five unbeaten Champions League outings against the top-two Dutch sides, Ajax and PSV, since 2012/13, including both trips, we fancy their chances. Not to mention, Ajax have won only seven of their 23 Champions League matches in that time frame, as against the European elite in that period – Bayern, PSG, Dortmund, Man City, Real Madrid, Barcelona – they went W2-D3-L8 from their 13 matches.
