Aston Villa v Bolton, Friday 2nd November, 19:45

It seems Dean Smith’s presence in Birmingham hasn’t quite had quite the same impact the fans were hoping for, as after beating Swansea 1-0 at Villa Park in his first game, they’ve since lost trips to both Norwich and QPR.

Villa currently sit in 17th place after 15 games, which is their worst start to the Championship since relegation from the Premier League in 2015/16, but they’ve still lost just once on home turf this season and will be looking for maximum points in front of their own fans.

Under 2.5 goals at 1.90*

Bolton avoided relegation last season but find themselves in the bottom six again having lost four of their last five winless matches, netting just once across these.

Those games weren’t exactly up against exceptional opposition either with Nottingham Forest the only side within the current top 10, while a defeat to 23rd placed Hull City last time out will worry them.

Four of these five games saw fewer than three goals and in fact, on the road this term, only five teams have conceded fewer than the Trotters’ eight goals – all of which are above them in the table.

They’ll certainly be keeping it tight at the back while we don’t expect Villa to be too extravagant under new management either.

Villa took an early lead in Smith’s maiden victory, while if we go back to the start of last season, the hosts have been ahead at half-time and full-time in 11 of their 17 victories here, including two out of three this term.

In contrast, Phil Parkinson’s men in this time have produced L/L doubles in the in 25 of their 30 defeats, including each of the last 13, and so we’re very bullish on the hosts in this market.
