Bayern Munich took a huge step towards an eighth straight Bundesliga title with a 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday as Joshua Kimmich’s creative first-half chip took the Bavarians seven points clear of their rivals with six games left to play.
Meanwhile, RB Leipzig, saw their faint title hopes fade even further away following a 2-2 draw with Hertha Berlin, a result which left Leipzig third on 55 points from 28 games, nine behind leaders Bayern and two adrift of second-placed Dortmund.
At the bottom of the table, bottom club Paderborn and 17th-placed Werder Bremen were both involved in goalless draws against Augsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach respectively while Fortuna Duesseldorf boosted their hopes of avoiding the drop with a 2-1 victory over Schalke.
So ahead of matchday 29 in Bundesliga here is a preview of every game this weekend in the German top-flight.
Freiburg v Leverkusen
Friday, 19:30
Live on BT Sport 1
Leverkusen suffered one of the biggest surprises of round 28 losing 4-1 at home to Wolfsburg which will hurt double considering that Monchengladbach are now on level points and they are both fighting for a Champions League spot.
Freiburg, on the other hand, also have a shot at European football next season and will definitely put up a solid fight.
Despite a good 3-3 against Eintracht Frankfurt, defensive uncertainties in the Freiburg defence gifted 2 of the 3 goals and they were heavily reliant on counter attacks which suggests that Leverkusen should find the net in this encounter.
Prediction: Leverkusen to Score 2 or more goals
Wolfsburg v Eintracht Frankfurt
Saturday, 14:30
Live on BT Sport 2
Wolfsburg are coming off of one of their biggest wins of the season and Eintracht are all over the place at the moment conceding goals from everywhere, making this a fascinating matchup.
It seems like an easy prediction but we have seen many upsets in the last Bundesliga matches and despite results Eintracht have a lot of quality in their ranks and you can write nothing off for this encounter.
Wolfsburg won the reverse fixture 2-0 at Frankfurt and will be looking to repeat that considering that they are facing one of the shakiest defences out there.
Prediction: Wolfsburg to win and over 3.5 goals
Mainz v Hoffenheim
Saturday, 14:30
Live on BT Sport 3
In the last 6 matches both Mainz and Hoffenheim have scored exactly 6 goals and conceded 13 and have picked up 6 points each.
It can’t be any closer going into this fixture, the marginal advantage that Hoffenheim will have is that they are coming off a good 3-0 victory over FC Koln and Mainz are coming off a disappointing draw against Union Berlin considering they played more than half of the match against 10 men.
Prediction: Draw and Both Teams to Score
Hertha Berlin v Augsburg
Saturday, 14:30
Live on BT Sport Extra
This mid-table battle seems very evenly matched on paper as both teams have similar points with 4 points separating them and Hertha have only scored 1 more goal then their opponents and conceded only 4 more throughout the entire campaign.
The gap, however, increases if you consider form since the Bundesliga’s resumption as Hertha have looked like a top team with 2 impressive wins and an impressive Draw against RB Leipzig while Augsburg have been up and down since the resumption with a Win, a Draw and a Loss.
Prediction: Hertha Berlin to win to Nil
Schalke v Werder Bremen
Saturday, 14:30
Live on BT Sport 1
Werder Bremen’s hopes of participating in the Bundesliga next year were looking very dim a few weeks ago but since the resumption, it is clear that they are going to fight till the last day to stay up and recent results suggest that no one can write them off.
They backed up their impressive 1-0 win over Freiburg with an even more impressive Draw against Champions League place contenders Monchengladbach and they also seem to have ideal opponents in Schalke as they have struggled immensely since the league resumed picking up a 0 points and conceding a whopping 9 goals and scoring only 1 goal.
Prediction: Werder Bremen to Win
Bayern Munch v Dusseldorf
Saturday, 17:30
Live on BT Sport 1
Dusseldorf will need any points they can get as they are stuck in 16th position which is the relegation playoff spot and Werder Bremen are starting to find form and currently 5 points behind them with a game in hand.
The away side are also coming off of a good win against Schalke, but everything points to all that not being enough to grab any points in Munich as Bayern are in superb form, racking up win after win (8 in a row) including their latest conquest, 2nd place Dortmund.
It seems like the only way that Bayern can lose some points if they take the foot off the pedal and get overconfident which is not likely.
Prediction: Lewandowski to Score first
Monchengaldbach v Union Berlin
Sunday, 14:30
Live on BT Sport 1
Monchengladbah are heavy favourites going into this encounter and their latest draw against relegation-threatened Werder Bremen should only strengthen their motivation for getting all 3 points here.
Union Berlin’s form hasn’t been great since the resumption with them only mustering up 1 point and conceding 7 goals and only scoring once in 3 matches.
The last Bundesliga encounter between these two resulted in a 2-0 win for Union Berlin which at least gives them some hope going into the match.
Prediction: Monchengladbach to win both Halves
Paderborn v Dortmund
Sunday, 17:00
Live on BT Sport 1
This match is all about Dortmund and their reaction to their heartbreaking loss against league leaders Bayern which now takes their lead to 7 points with just 6 matches left to play.
Paderborn have very little chance of climbing up from the bottom of the ladder and with just 2 goals scored from their last 5 matches, they will find it very hard to hurt Dortmund.
Expect Dortmund to quickly dust themselves off and continue with their good goal scoring form they showed prior to the Bayern match.
Prediction: Dortmund to win by 3 or more goals
Cologne v RB Leipzig
Monday, 19:30
Live on BT Sport 1
Leipzig were looking like they were cruising towards a Champions League spot this season, but their latest draw against Hertha Berlin, combined with the fact that both Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen are just 2 points behind, nobody can really be sure what will happen next.
Cologne’s main objective at this point seems to be to keep their place in the middle of the league and have been in good scoring form as of late with 5 goals in 3 matches but that is over shadowed by the 7 goals they have conceded in the same time frame.
Prediction: RB Leipzig to win both halves
