Bundesliga: Weekend Preview & Predictions

Bayern Munich should take another step toward wrapping up the Bundesliga title this weekend, but all eyes will be on Schalke and their under-fire coach David Wagner, who travel to Union Berlin on Sunday.

Bayern Munich should take another step toward wrapping up the Bundesliga title for a record eighth consecutive time this weekend, but there’s still plenty to play for with nine games taking place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

On Friday night, things get underway with Freiburg hosting Monchengladbach with the home side looking for their first win since the resumption of the League back in May.

Bayern will take a huge step towards another title if they beat Leverkusen with nearest challengers Dortmund not playing until 17:30 when they host Hertha Berlin who have shown good form of late.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, two of the sides who have been struggling since the restart meet with Shalke heading to Union Berlin with the pressure mounting on coach David Wagner whose side have not registered a point sine the Covid-19 enforced break.

Freiburg v Monchengladbach

Monchengladbach are the favourites going into this one and they seem to have steadied the ship with a dominant performance against Union Berlin having looked very shaky after a 3-1 loss to Leverkusen and a goalless draw against Werder.

Freiburg, on the other hand, are looking for their first 3 points since the resumption and are coming off a 1-0 home loss against Leverkusen. In the reverse fixture Monchengladbach were clear winners 4-2, but since then both teams have shown plenty of defensive resilience, so there could well be less goals this time around.

Prediction: Monchengladbach to Win and under 3.5 goals

Eintracht Frankfurt v Mainz
Saturday
14:30
Live on BT Sport

It was only a matter of time before we saw Eintracht firing back on form as this team has too much quality to be in the bottom half of the table especially after a solid 2018/19 campaign.  AC Milan loanee Andre Silva is back on form having scored 4 goals in the last 5 matches and it’ll be no surprise if he picks up goal number 5 against Mainz.

Mainz can’t afford any more slip-ups as Dusseldorf and Werder are both desperate for points in their battle to avoid relegation. But they have the worst defense of the league and have only picked up 2 points since the resumption – so Eintracht look to have the advantage, though they have conceded 53 goals so far this campaign.

Prediction: Andre Silva to Score2 or more gaols

Dusseldorf v Hoffenheim
Saturday
14:30
Live on BT Sport

This looks like being a close one as both sides have plenty to play for with Hoffenheim in the battle for a Europa league spot whereas Dusseldorf are scrapping to pull themselves out of the relegation zone.

Form wise, Hoffenheim are coming off 2 consecutive wins while Dusseldorf has the second-worst offense of the league which means they need a brave defensive performance if they are to pick up 3 point here and it’s worth noting that the last time these two met it ended in a 1-1 Draw.

Prediction: Draw

Leverkusen v Bayern Munich
Saturday
14:30 Live on BT Sport 1

Arguably the game of the weekend sees the league leaders travelling to Leverkusen who lie in fifth place and are in a tough battle for a prestigious champions League spot. Bayern have been amazing since the resumption, picking up 4 wins out of 4 and scoring 13 goals and conceding only 2 with 3 clean sheets along the way.

Leverkusen have been pretty impressive themselves of late, picking up 3 wins and having only one hiccup against Wolfsburg and will be boosted by the fact that in their last encounter against Bayern, they claimed a 2-1 win.

Prediction: Bayern to win and Both Teams to Score

RB Leipzig v Paderborn
Saturday
14:30 Live on BT Sport 2

Leipzig picked themselves up well after a disappointing 2-2 Draw against Hertha Berlin with a 4-2 away win against Koln while Leipzig have the third-best attack of the league and the second-best defence, which will likely be too much for bottom-placed and seemingly doomed Paderborn.

Paderborn have battled valiantly since the resumption with 3 consecutive draws but with only 5 matches to go, it seems like its too late for a resurgence as they stare relegation from Bundesliga firmly in the face.

Prediction: RB Leipzig to Win Both Halves

Dortmund v Hertha Berlin
Saturday
17:30
Live on BT Sport

On paper, this looks like a straight forward win with the team lying second in Bundesliga giants taking on ninth-place place Hertha Berlin. Hertha’s recent form might suggest that we can expect a tough encounter with the visitors gaining 10 points from their last 4 matches with 3 clean sheets.

That’s one more point than Dortmund, who have only 1 loss since the resumption against Bayern and last Sunday’s match against Paderborn proved that they are not down and out and will battle till the end for the title despite being 7 points off the pace.

Prediction: Halftime/Fulltime: X/1

Bundesliga

Werder Bremen v Wolfsburg
Sunday
12:30
Live on BT Sport

Werder Bremen are surely too to end up relegated this year and you can be sure that they will do everything in their power to climb up the ladder and keep their sport in next years’s Bundesliga who, with the exception of their match against Eintracht Frankfurt Werder have 3 consecutive clean sheets and 7 out of 9 points in the bag.

Wolfsburg will have a big say in matters though, as their battle for a Europa League spot is heating up and considering what is at stake and also that Wolfsburg have failed to beat Werder in their last 8 top-flight meetings everything points towards a home win.

Prediction: Werder Bremen to Win to Nil

Union Berlin v Schalke
Sunday
14:30
Live on BT Sport

If there was a debate on who is on the worst form of the Bundesliga at the moment it would be a tough choice between these two teams. Union Berlin have only picked up 1 point since the resumption and Schalke have somehow managed to pick up a point less.

This is the best chance Schalke will get to return to winning ways and in the last 3 matches against Union Berlin they have won twice which should give them hope going into this one.

Prediction: Schalke to Win

Augsburg v Cologne
Sunday
17:00
Live on BT Sport

Augsburg will be looking to forget their last loss to Hertha Berlin as they simply can’t afford to get too comfortable with only 4 points between them and 16th place.

Koln have scored in every match since the resumption with 7 goals in 4 matches, but on the other side of the pitch, they have let too many goals in to be comfortable – with 11 goals conceded in 4 matches – meaning a draw looks the most likely outcome.

Prediction:  Draw
