Best from La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A

Could Juventus lift the Serie A title on Saturday?

Football Whispers

The Easter weekend could see titles and top four races end alike, although for some it could mean victory while for others it could mean despair.

There are tight races across Europe, with key matches taking place in Serie A, Bundesliga, and La Liga. We’ve previewed the best of this weekend’s ties from across those three leagues.

Juventus vs Fiorentina

Last weekend, Juventus missed their chance to lift the Serie A title, resting players for the Champions League quarter-final only to lose to SPAL 2-1. And then, only to lose to Ajax and make the rotation and defeat last weekend for nothing.

Back in front of their home fans on Saturday, they’ll be more determined than ever to secure the league title. They need a win to secure it on the day, but if Napoli fail to win against sixth-place Atalanta on Sunday then the Old Lady of Italy will also win their 37th Scudetto.

The good thing for Juventus is that, Champions League aside, they haven’t lost at home this season. Fourteen of their 16 league matches at the Allianz Stadium have resulted in a victory for the Bianconeri.

Juventus to win, 1.48*

Inter vs Roma

While Juventus have the title wrapped up, the top four race is still very much on in Serie A this season. Inter are third on 60 points, their city rivals AC Milan are on 55, and then Roma are in fifth on 53. Atalanta, Torino, Lazio, and Sampdoria on 53, 50, 49, and 48 respectively aren’t far behind either.

Inter don’t have to worry about those latter four clubs but Roma certainly do. Making the top four might be as much as a concern as a potential drop down the table to ninth, particularly given that their Rome rivals Lazio have a game in hand.

Both sides have won two and drawn one of their past three games, and their previous meeting this season ended 2-2.

Mauro Icardi, Inter’s top scorer, could be key. He’s returned to the side this month after a lay-off through injury and, depending which Italian media you read, disputes with the club’s hierarchy.

In his three appearances since making it back into the fold, he’s scored one and got two assists. That strike only took him to ten for the league season, but he’s an important cog in the Inter machine.

Mauro Icardi to score first, 4.35*

Borussia Monchengladbach vs RB Leipzig

While this game might not have any big names, it’s fifth versus third in the Bundesliga as both teams look to secure Champions League football next season. Seven points separate the two, with Leipzig almost equidistant from Borussia Monchengladbach in fifth as they are from Borussia Dortmund in second.

Leipzig may be the away side this weekend but they’re in tremendous form. After a shaky period from November to mid-January, they’re on a 13-match unbeaten run in all competitions, with ten of those being wins.

The home side will have to keep a close eye on Leipzig’s Timo Werner. The German striker has got three goals and three assists in his last four appearances.

Real Madrid vs Athletic Club

Real Madrid’s search for opportunity to save face this season continues. They have the hardest game of the top three this weekend, with Barcelona facing 10th-place Real Sociedad and Atletico facing 13th-place Eibar.

Madrid’s mixed fortunes haven’t wholly changed since Zinedine Zidane returned. After winning the first two with the Frenchman back in charge, they’ve lost to Valencia, beaten Eibar, and drawn with Leganes.

It’s the kind of run of results that put Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari in danger earlier in the season. Athletic Club, meanwhile, are in one of their best runs of form of 2018/19, having won four of their last five.

With rivals Barcelona looking scintillating in midweek with their victory over Manchester United, Real Madrid won’t want to lose face. But it could be a tough challenge.

Draw or Athletic Club win, 2.70*
