Argentina will be looking to put their disappointing open loss to Colombia behind them when they take on Paraguay in their Copa America Group B clash. Form Labs breaks down the clash while as ever we bring you the value with our selection of enhanced odds.
Must Win For Both Teams
Both sides must put their opening games out of mind and get on with the task of picking up points. However, although much focus has been on Argentina’s 2-0 defeat to Colombia, a stalemate between Paraguay and Qatar should enable them to finish second in Group B with some degree of comfort.
Paraguay really needed a win over Qatar to give themselves the best possible chance of qualifying for the knockouts as one of the third-placed sides, though in the end they may find that’s the only point they pick up in Brazil.
Missed Chances Against Colombia
Both goals Argentina conceded versus Colombia came against the run of play and Lionel Scaloni’s outfit will be confident of getting back on track here.
However, the coach will need to work out how to mesh Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria and Sergio Aguero together more effectively, while he’d be well advised to shift Giovani Lo Celso into the middle rather than shunt him out wide where his talents are wasted.
Argentina v Paraguay Betting Tips
However, it’s not as if Argentina didn’t have their chances against Colombia, winning the shot count 13-8 (6-2 on target), and they’ll take comfort from the way Qatar cut Paraguay apart with quick passes.
Following a nervous start on their Copa America debut, the Arab nation were much the better side for long spells, and with Paraguay’s only clean sheet in their last 11 matches coming against Guatemala, La Albiceleste should fancy their chances even if they’re not firing on all cylinders.
In fact, it tends to be all or nothing for Argentina, as seven of their nine victories since the start of 2018 have come by a minimum two-goal margin.
Excluding the likes of Spain, Croatia, France, Brazil and Colombia – who are the best teams they’ve faced over this spell according to FIFA’s world rankings – they’ve gone W9-D1-L1 as they consistently beat the weaker teams before their defence has undermined them up against real quality.
